Story and Meaning in Creating a Book
In my work as a ghostwriter, I quite often come across situations where a person has either a clear story they want to tell or a deep understanding of the meanings they want to convey to the future reader of their book.
This is exactly where the craft of writing comes into play, helping to find the part that is missing. A finished book should carry meaning and have a foundation on which that meaning is built. And there is no single starting point here. You can build a story or material around what a person wants to convey. Or you can shape the meaning around the story my client tells.
In both cases, it is about connecting things that are already there. A person who comes to me for help creating a book may simply fail to see one part or the other right away. At the same time, almost every client of mine who initially sees only the story has a strong sense of its meaning. They may not see it clearly, but they feel it, because there must be reasons for writing the book, and those reasons may very well exist on a subconscious level.
How to Find the Story and Its Meaning
The same thing happens with the story itself. It is already there, because a person who wants to convey something profound has formed that understanding on the basis of real events in their own life. These may be adventures, the study of certain materials, consistent work, or simply everyday life that has shaped a deeper perspective. This is where you need to help the client see which particular events in their life led them to understand such profound things.
Over the years, you begin to see this side of the work more and more clearly. A client suddenly comes alive and begins pouring out a flood of words about some particular episode. At that point, I already understand that this is where an important meaning was formed for them, which means this is exactly what we will analyze while looking for what we need.
And then there is the opposite situation: a deep perspective and certain meanings are already there. At that moment, there may be no story at all, because the client does not know what exactly led to those thoughts and that understanding. But even here, it can be found by first identifying the period when they already understood all of this and then working backward to the specific events that should be described as the foundation of that deeper meaning.
A Ghostwriter’s Work on a Book
It is a complicated process, but at the same time, it is entirely realistic. What is needed is the ghostwriter’s experience and the client’s firm desire to create something of their own. Then come the search, the conversations, the attempts at writing, and at a certain point everything begins to take shape into something that the person who came to me to have a book written already knew. Even though they did not realize it.
This is not only about fiction. It can also be a professional or business book, because every field has its own meaning and values that can be discussed. It can also be something autobiographical. A person’s own life is always filled with meaning and with a story whose value lies precisely in its reality.
Meaning Can Exist in Any Book
Regardless of the nature or direction of a book, it can be filled with meaning that simply needs to be uncovered. Of course, there are various instructional materials explaining how to do certain things, but meaning exists there as well—simply in the mind of the person who will use them to do something important in their own life. Once again, all of this needs to be seen, and that requires work.
Meaning will always be there, just as there will always be a corresponding deeper story. Try it yourself. Turn to professionals. The choice is yours. But finding what fills your own life and seeing how much interesting material is already there is an important step toward happiness.
Sometimes books help with that. Sometimes ghostwriters help with writing those books. Reach out. Or write it yourself. Everyone is worthy of their own book and their own understanding of happiness. Proven through years of practice.
Your business book can be exactly like this. Or completely different. Either way, the client will ultimately decide everything, because it’s his business, his expense, and he needs his own result.
