Friendship

Two old friends. One thinks he's the smart one. The other thinks he's the strong one. Both are certain they've sacrificed more for the friendship than the other ever noticed.
One phone call is about to test that theory.

Description

Zhenya was watching a film. On the screen, a corrupt police officer was enjoying equally corrupt pleasures with two women of easy virtue. At a certain point in their “interaction,” one of the ladies produced a phone and, as if joking, snapped a photo of the officer in his compromising embrace.
The thought immediately flashed through Zhenya’s mind that sooner or later that photo would surface, and the policeman would be in serious trouble. He smiled, pleased with his own foresight, savoring the fate that awaited the defender of law and order — whom he didn’t like anyway.
The film’s ending confirmed all of Evgeny’s predictions. The corrupt officer’s door swung open, a heroic prosecutor appeared on the threshold, walked up to the villain, tossed the incriminating photo onto his desk, and a moment later the policeman was in handcuffs, heading straight for prison.
Enormously satisfied with himself, Zhenya crunched cheerfully on chips. He suddenly felt like sharing his small triumph with someone. Picking up his phone, he began scrolling:
A — Pharmacy
B — Some Boris, about whom he couldn’t remember a single thing (delete later)
C — nothing
G — Genka.
That’s the one. Genka would be just right. Perpetually upbeat guy, but a bit dim. They’d known each other a long time — since university. And despite the fact that after graduation Genka had gone into business while Zhenya had followed his profession as an engineer, they’d stayed in touch.
